Venelin Kokalov is the design Principle leading Vancouver based international architectural practice, Bing Thom Architects (BTA). As protégé and successor to the late Canadian architect Bing Thom, Kokalov has lead the practice with exceptional designs, each rich and distinctive, over the past 15 years.
With a background strongly rooted in traditional craftsmanship, trained in both architecture and structural engineering, Kokalov is able to seamlessly weave together established and contemporary technologies in innovative ways. Within the BTA studio Kokalov nurtures the already deeply established values of culture, craftsmanship and excellence.
Under Kokalov’s direction, the studio has won various prestigious international competitions, including; the Xiqu Opera House in Hong Kong and the University of Chicago Center in Hong Kong, home of the Booth School of Business. His work and passion can be seen in the completion of Surrey City Centre Library, BC, Arena Stage in Washington, DC, the Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, the Guildford Aquatic Centre in Surrey, and most recently MacEwan University’s Allard Hall in Edmonton, AB. Collaboratively BTA produces active and beautiful designs that inspire and support individuals, businesses and communities, whether it be for a performing arts center, a pool, a library, or a piano.
